Event Description:
Everywhere! Monday, March 29, 2010
This is a great way to help the Alabama Blues Project! It's an easy, cheap and fun fundraiser that you can do at your place of business.
That $5 you found in your pocket can buy you the chance to shed your business suit and wear blues jeans to the office while supporting a great cause! The Alabama Blues Project is asking businesses to participate in their second annual "Blue Jeans for the Blues" on Monday, March 29th. The event will raise funds to help the ABP continue their mission of promoting Alabama's rich blues heritage and passing it on to future generations through its award-winning blues camps and school programs, designed particularly to benefit at-risk children and underserved areas.
How does it work? Businesses agree to appoint a coordinator within their company to collect $5 from each participating employee in exchange for the opportunity to wear blues jeans to work on March 29th. This is a fashion statement with a cause! Inviting staff to wear their favorite pair of blue jeans to work for a "casual Monday" is a fun and comfortable way to generate good feelings for both staff and customers. The Alabama Blues Project will provide promotional flyers to each participating business providing customers information regarding the company’s generosity and commitment to our mission of music education for at-risk children.
Participating Businesses will also have the opportunity to be promoted as sponsors of the 2010 Open House Blues Extravaganza. The Alabama Blues Project’s After-School Blues Camp students will showcase their talents on the big stage for a free, fun-filled day of music on May 1st. In addition to three separate Blues Camp band performances involving over 60 students, the audience will be treated to live music from Microwave Dave, Lil’ Jimmy Reed and Betty Fikes.
All participating businesses will receive acknowledgement and publicity for their support of these wonderful community events with an on-site zoomer listing at the Blues Extravaganza and a listing on our website which receives over 20,000 hits a month. Depending on the amount a business donates and/or raises through “Blue Jeans for the Blues,” more publicity may apply.
Please contact Cara Smith at (205) 752-6263 or cara@alabamablues.org to participate in "Blue Jeans for the Blues" or for more information.
Thank you for your support!

About the Alabama Blues Project: The mission of the Alabama Blues Project is to preserve and promote blues music as a traditional and contemporary art form through interactive programs that educate and entertain. With educational programs, live performances, exhibits, and the development of archival and curriculum materials, the ABP increases awareness of the role blues music has played in the development of popular American music, with a special focus on Alabama's contribution to that history. These activities add to the richness of cultural experiences that make the West Alabama area a great place to live and visit. ABP’s programs reach a wide variety of audiences, including many at-risk and troubled youth. Our signature and unique blues camp programss pass on Alabama's rich blues culture to the next generation while instilling self-esteem, discipline, cross cultural understanding, interaction, and teamwork.
